Distilled designs
DeepSeek team has demonstrated that the reasoning patterns of bigger designs can be distilled into smaller designs, resulting in much better performance compared to the thinking patterns discovered through RL on small designs.
Below are the models developed through fine-tuning versus several dense designs widely used in the research neighborhood using reasoning information generated by DeepSeek-R1. The assessment results show that the distilled smaller sized dense models carry out well on criteria.
